The Evil Debt Collectors
It’s seems that just about everyone I know, has either had personal experience with debt collectors, or knows someone who has had a bad experience with them.
A friend of mine is a chippie (carpenter) and does a lot of subcontracting work. There was a time I recall when one of the companies that he was doing subcontracting work for fell into receivership and had to be liquidated. That’s not very uncommon these days. Unfortunately for my friend, the chippie, he didn’t get paid for the work or materials that he had provided to get the job done. Sadly he ran into some very serious debt. Now I recall a certain debt collection agency getting a bit heavy handed with him over money outstanding for purchases he had made to complete the work he was doing. Obviously as his main contractor had gone bust and he wasn’t getting paid he had no means of repaying his own debts. The debt collection agency were about to reposes his work van and as he promptly pointed out to them, if had no van then how could he work to earn some money to repay the debt? Now here’s the funny part, the company that sent in the debt collectors was the parent company of the contracting company that went bust that hadn’t paid him! Go figure?!!
